Grand Prairie's
First United Methodist Church has been
on Center Street between Main and Church since October 1880. As old
buildings were replaced by newer ones, our sanctuary has faced north;
it has faced west; the 1925 building even faced the intersection of
Church Street and Center. Our steeple (the first one was 18' high and
the current one is 108' high) is a landmark in the heart of Grand
Prairie--one that beckons all with "Open hearts, open minds and open
doors."
As United
Methodists, our mission is to make
disciples
of Jesus Christ by proclaiming the good news of God's grace and to
serve Him throughout the world. Here at First United
Methodist Church, Grand Prairie,
we have three Sunday
Worship Services and a variety of opportunities for study,
service and fellowship. We offer several classes for
scripture
study -- to learn about Christian action, giving, and discipline.
Our children's and
youth
programs involve more than 200 young people, guiding them in
their
development as Christians. We sponsor Boy Scout Troop 195 and Cub Scout
Pack 195. The
Center for Young Children also offers classes for
pre-schoolers on
Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Our members put
feet and hands on their faith within our church family, within
the
community in activities such as
the Grand Prairie Food and Clothing Co-op and beyond Grand Prairie. The
photograph in the upper left corner was taken during
our Junior
High mission trip last summer. The rows of rocks are the beginning of
the labyrinth they built at the United Methodist Retreat Center on Lake
Texoma.
Senior High youth travel to Juarez, Mexico, each summer to build homes
for needy families. Our adult members have also gone to Juarez
to build homes.
The best way to
decide if First United Methodist
Church of Grand Prairie is for you is to visit us. We welcome your
presence and pray that you'll find strength in God's grace.
