May 10:

  • United Methodist Men's Breakfast Meeting - cancelled. Thank you for your help with last Saturday's UMM Garage Sale.
  • Benefit for GP Food and Clothing Co-op and LifeLine Shelter First Christian Church, 202 W. Tarrant Road, is hosting a SPRING FESTIVAL on Saturday, May 10 from 10am – 4pm.  Table space is available to groups and individuals.  Flyers have been distributed to Sunday School Classes and complete details are available in the church office.
May 11: Mother's Day and Youth Sunday. Our youth will be in charge of worship.

Opportunities:

  • Bake cookies for Project Graduation: This drug free, alcohol free party for all of Grand Prairie High and South Grand Prairie High's class of 2008 will be at Lone Star Park on Saturday, May 31. If you can bake at least two dozen cookies, brownies or other bar cookies (no cakes or pies, please), please deliver them to the church office by noon, Friday, May 30. Churches and organizations across Grand Prairie jointly sponsor this event.
  • Cub Scout Pack 195 needs a Cubmaster. Because of his Naval Reserve duty and demands of his work, the current Cubmaster, Gaylon Leddy, cannot continue. He will, however, help the person who assumes this position. Our church sponsored the first Boy Scout Troop in Grand Prairie and currently sponsors Pack 295 and Troop 195. Contact Ben Hartsell, our Scout Coordinator.
  • The Food for Funerals Committee asks that each member contribute $10.00 to help provide a meal for bereaved families. The committee would also appreciate volunteers to helpset up before and clean up after the meal. Checks should be made out to FUMC-GP with the notation "Food Fund for Funerals" on the memo line.
  • Grand Prairie Food and Clothing Co-op needs volunteers, especially on Mondays and Fridays in the Food Pantry and Tuesdays and Fridays in Clothing. The Co-op has no paid staff; all workers are volunteers. It takes at least eight persons per day to pack and serve groceries, help clients with clothing, and interview clients. An experienced volunteer always assists new volunteers. The Co-Op is open from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday through Friday, except on holidays. Contact Mary Ann Hartsell, at 972-642-7751 to volunteer. (You'll find many FUMC people among the Co-op's experienced workers.)
  • Donate goods or services to be auctioned at the UMW Lock-in. The auction will help fund UMW's fall retreat at the Prothro Center. Contact Sarah Teubner 972-765-6193 or steubner@tx.rr.com.

Thank you!

  • To the Music Department for hosting the Earl Tom Keel, Jr. Scholarship Luncheon: The food was good; the entertainment was great; the dessert auction was both tasty and fun. Counting the silent auction, we raised $3,800 for music scholarships.
  • To the Single Parents Sunday School Class for doing Pew Patrol in March and April. Those few minutes spent straightening hymnals in the racks, sharpening pencils and erasing pencil marks are greatly appreciated.
  • To United Methodist Men and all who helped at the Annual Garage Sale. Because of you, many people have clothing, kitchen items and furniture they might not have been able to purchase at retail--and that's recycling too! This annual event is the major fundraiser for UMM Scholarships.
